Persian Poetry After Dark | In English is an ongoing music and poetry project that brings the words of some of Iran’s most important poets into a contemporary musical landscape.
The project explores Persian poetry through ambient electronics, soul, indie pop, trance, downtempo, deep house, chillout, trip-hop and other electronic and contemporary sounds — creating a meeting point between the emotional depth of Persian literature and the language of modern music.
At its heart, the project is simple: to bring powerful Persian poetry to people who may never have encountered it before, and to allow its emotions to be experienced through music and in English.
The growing collection includes adaptations inspired by poets such as Rumi, Hafez, Forough Farrokhzad, Vida Farhoudi, Ghazal Tajbakhsh, Nima Yushij, Ahmad Shamlou, Fereydoon Moshiri, Mohammad Zohari and others, with more poets and poems being explored as the project develops.

About Ghazal Tajbakhsh
Ghazal Tajbakhsh is an Iranian poet and writer, born in Borujerd in 1942. Her literary life has extended across poetry, writing and cultural activities, with poetry remaining at the heart of her creative work. She has written in several poetic forms and has also been involved in nurturing Iran’s literary community through the Ghazal Literary Association, which she helped establish in Tehran in the early 1980s.
Her poetry often carries a strong emotional connection to love, nature, memory, hope and the passage of time. Her work brings together intimate personal feelings with vivid images of seasons, flowers, light and the human heart.
“I Saw You in a Dream” reflects this delicate side of her poetry — a fleeting encounter transformed into memory, light and dream. In Persian Poetry After Dark | In English, the poem is reimagined as an atmospheric song, allowing its imagery and emotional intimacy to reach a new audience through contemporary sound.
